In this lesson, we will learn how to
Convert
Convert 0.25 into a percentage.
Solution:
First express 0.25 as a fraction with 100 in the denominator.
Write 100 in denominator for the two digits after the decimal point,
Therefore,
0.25 =
Substitute % for 100 in the denominator and express 25/100 as 25%
Thus 0.25 = 25%
Write the following decimal numbers as percentages:
1. 0.35
First 0.35 is 35/100, now write % for the fraction 1/100.
So that, 0.35 = 35%
Short-cut:
Instead, use the above rule and shift the decimal point two places to the right and write the percentage symbol:
0.35 = 035.
Discard 0 in the beginning as it carries no value in the first place and the decimal point too followed by no digit.
035. is therefore same as 35, and
0.35 = 35%
2. 0. 456
Shift the decimal point two places to the right and write the percentage symbol. Therefore,
0.456 = 45.6%
3. 8.352
Shift the decimal point two places to the right, so that
8.352 = 835.2 %
Consider 55%
1. Convert 55% into a decimal number.
We know to write the fraction 1/100 for % symbol,
So, 55% = 55 × (1/100) = 55/100
Because of two zeroes in denominator in 100, write the decimal point two places to the left of the last digit in numerator, 55.
So, 55/100 = .55 = 0.55
2. Express 5.5 % as a decimal number.
Now, 5.5% = 5.5/100
Now, 5.5 is 55/10, writing a 10 in denominator for the one decimal point in 5.5,
So, 5.5/100 = (55/10) × (1/100) = 55/1000
Now, write decimal point three places to the left of the unit’s digit 5 for the three zeroes in the denominator
Therefore, 55/1000 = 0.055
3. 25% = 25/100
Reduce the fraction 25/100 into lowest terms by dividing both numerator and denominator by their common factor 25,
4. 90% = 90/100 =
9/10 after dividing by the common factor, 10
1. What percent is the fraction 2/3?
Multiply 2/3 with 100 and write % in the end.
Convert 4/5 into percentage
(4/5)×100 =
1. Express 60% as a fraction?
You can put it in two ways:
1. Multiply integer 60 with the fraction 1/100 – for %
60 × (1/100) = 60/100 = 6/10 = 3/5
Or
2. Divide number 60 by 100
60/100 = 6/10 = 3/5
2. What percent is 40?
Multiply integer 40 with 100 and write the percent symbol %
